The Dominican University women's soccer team posted their second straight clean sheet, topping the visiting Fontbonne University Griffins 2-0 behind a pair of goals from sophomore
Josseline Williams. Freshman goalkeeper
Abbey Brown faced three shots, making one save to improve to 2-0-0 on the season with a pair of shutouts.
Following the win, fourth year head coach Carlos Carrillo commented on his team's performance.
"Today was a good test for us. We played well against a good, tough, organized team. We got on the board early and were able to control the majority of the game. We were well organized, though at times not so pretty. We still gave a great effort and came out with a good result at home. This was a great team win and now we look forward to the opportunity to continue to grow together."
Williams' first goal, the eventual game winner, came in the fifth minute of play after
Tania Paez was taken down inside the 18-yard box. Williams buried the ensuing penalty kick for her second tally of the season. The penalty kick was Dominican's lone shot of the first half while Fontbonne managed just one shot of their own.
Things opened up slightly in the second half with Dominican getting off five shots and Fontbonne three but neither team could find the back of the goal until the 89
th minute when Williams was able to get behind the Griffins' backline thanks to restart service from midfield off the foot of
Kaitlyn Tripp. Williams was able to beat Fontbonne's Mary Beers to a bouncing ball, heading a shot past Beers for the insurance tally.
The Stars will take their winning and shutout streaks into a game against the North Park University Vikings on Wednesday afternoon at West Campus Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
