Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Play To Scoreless Draw

The Dominican University women's soccer team posted their fourth consecutive shutout to open the 2017 season, playing the Denison University Big Red to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon in Granville, Ohio.

"I'm extremely proud of our efforts against a quality opponent on the road," Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head coach, said following the draw. "For all 110 minutes, we played with intensity and battled throughout the match. It was a great team result with many exceptional performances."

The match stacked up on paper almost as even as the score, with Denison managing eight shots to the Stars' seven with the Big Red holding a slight 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.  Denison did hold a marked 13-4 advantage in corner kicks, but it was a Dominican corner that nearly ended the match in final seconds of the second overtime. As time ticked away at the end of the second overtime period, Dominican's Samantha Hatfield's corner kick bent towards the goal only to have Denison's Jenny Herold make one of her four saves on the afternoon.

For Dominican, freshman goalkeeper Abbey Brown  picked up her fourth shutout, logging five saves to move to 3-0-1 in goal on the season.

The Stars, now 3-0-1 on the season, have a quick turnaround, continuing their road trip through Ohio on Sunday, heading for Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.  Kickoff between the Stars and Ladies is slated for 1:00 p.m. ET.
