The Dominican University women's soccer team ran their program-best winning streak to 13 matches, topping the Edgewood College Eagles, 6-0, on Saturday at Breese Stevens Field in Madison, Wisconsin. With the win, the Stars improve to 13-2-0 on the season and an unblemished 8-0-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action.
"Great team win today," said Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head women's soccer coach. "We came out and took control of the game right from the start; created some nice opportunities that led to some nice goals."
Josseline Williams opened the game's scoring in the 14
th minute, scoring her first of three in the match when
Leah Kostos's centering pass deflected off an Edgewood defender before finding Williams near the penalty spot for a one-touch shot to the near post that beat the Eagles' Grace Wildeboer.
Dominican added another goal before the end of the first half when Kostos again connected with Williams near the top of the 18-yard box. Williams played a square ball for
Jackie Viola who blasted a shot from 18-yards that banged off the crossbar before finding its way over the goal line.
Things continued to open up in the attacking third for Dominican in the second half, adding four goals including a pair of Williams who now has 20 goals on the season. Freshman
Holli Cochran also added her 12
th of the season while
Vanessa Salazar knocked in her second of the year to cap the game's scoring in the 83
rd minute of play.
The Stars dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Eagles, 45-0, with
Abbey Brown picking up her ninth shutout of the season. For Dominican, the blanking was the 13
th straight shutout, with the Stars last surrendering a goal back on September 3.
The Stars return to action on Wednesday, traveling down Division Street for a 12:30 p.m. match at Concordia University Chicago in the Northwestern Mutual River Forest Rivalry Series.
