Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Take Down Cougars

The Dominican University men's soccer team hunted down their Division Street rivals on Wednesday afternoon, scoring a 3-0 victory to move to 9-5-1 on the year and 6-3-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.

The Stars managed 13 first half shots, putting six on frame, and earned four corners, eventually scoring off a corner set piece in the 40th minute when Alex Lulek got on the end of Isaac Perez's service for a header at the front post.  The goal was the fourth of the season for the junior midfielder.

Dominican continued to control possession throughout the second half, peppering the Concordia goal with 16 shots, nine on frame, and earning 11 corners including another corner kick goal in the 68th time with Carlos Ramos heading home Perez's out-swinging service at the back post. The Stars added another insurance tally in the 85th minute as Chris Linkenbach struck from 17 yards after Ethan Grosam and Benji Ibarra connected for a couple of passes on the left side before Ibarra laid a pass to the top of the box for Linkenbach.

In total, the Stars outshot the Cougars 29-11, putting 15 shots on goal while allowing just four through to goalkeeper Daniel Dominguez who logged the shutout.

"We were flat today and didn't have the right mindset and compete level from the start," said Erick Baumann, when asked about his team's performance. "Getting the three points is good but that effort and performance isn't good enough."

The Stars return to the pitch on Saturday, hosting the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors for a 2:45 p.m. kickoff.
