The Dominican University women's volleyball team saw their four-match winning streak come to a close on Saturday, dropping a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22) decision to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in Mequon, Wisconsin.
Â
"Again we showed we can hang with the best teams in the conference," said Cameron Andrew, the Stars' head women's volleyball coach. "We had a good opportunity to be able to take that match but let it slip away from us. In those tight moments, we lost sight of the little things and when you do that, the bigger things get away from you. I'm really happy what we did in coverage and blocking today—maybe the best we've played in those facets of the game. Monday we need to get to work on keeping those little things as priorities even when we are in long points and tough, intense matches."
Â
Offensively, the Stars overcame a slow start. After hitting -.023 in the opening set, Dominican went on to post a .153 attack percentage with 47 kills to 20 errors on 176 total attacks. Freshman
Gabija Sinickaite led the way with 15 kills while
Stephanie Cole added 14. The pair combined to hit .358, committing just five total errors on 67 attempts.Â
Â
Anastasia Labadessa ran the offense, doling out 34 assists while using six different attackers. The sophomore rounded out a double-double effort with 16 digs, one of four with double-digit digs for the Stars in the loss.
Â
At the net, Dominican posted eight blocks, including six total blocks for Cole, including one solo block.
Â
In the back row, Dominican slowed the Falcons to a .174 attack percentage, nearly 23 points below their season average.Â
Megan Parker and
Gillian Jones led the effort with 24 and 21 digs respectively.
Â
Dominican, now 13-7 on the season and 5-2 in league play, returns home to the Igini Sports Forum for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Alverno College Inferno on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
