The Dominican University men's volleyball team cruised to a three-set (25-17, 25-16, 25-13) win over the Lakeland University Muskies in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum. As a team the Stars hit .464 in the win, their highest attack percentage since hitting .500 in a sweep of the Wittenberg Tigers back on February 3. Defensively, Dominican tallied nine blocks, limiting the Muskies to just an .049 hitting percentage.
"I thought we had a loud and energetic crowd today and it really charged the guys up," said Dan Pawlikowski, Dominican's first-year head coach, following the match. "Overall this was our best offensive performance in a number of matches if not all year. It is great to see the productivity increasing regardless of the personnel. Another solid team win and to do it in a sweep helps tremendously."
Luke Spicer led the way for Dominican, knocking down a match-high 11 kills on just 16 swings, finishing with a .688 attack percentage. Setter
Jack McGuire connected with eight different attackers, collecting 32 assists. Rookie
Troy Kates was a perfect 7-for-7 on attacks while
Nick Timreck added six kills and
Jake Sidner tallied five. Freshman
Adrian Cebula made the most of his opportunity in the third set, collecting a pair of kills and an ace.
Dominican's trio of McGuire, Kates and Timreck wreaked havoc at the net, combining for nine total blocks. Each had two solo blocks apiece while adding three block assists for McGuire, two for Timreck and one for Kates. In the back row,
David DeMarco collected a match-high nine digs as Dominican forced the Muskies into 21 errors while allowing just 25 kills.
For Lakeland, Desmond Williams led the way with six kills.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans before embarking on a six-match road trip through New Jersey and New York from March 3 through March 6.
