The Dominican University men's basketball team could not keep pace with the Marian University Sabres (10-11, 9-7) on Saturday afternoon, falling 69-56 at the Igini Sports Forum to slip to 4-17 on the season and 2-14 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
After a back-and-forth first half that saw five ties and one lead change, the Sabres outscored Dominican 10-5 over the first five minutes of the second half to open a 37-32 lead that the Stars could not overcome.
Marian turned 18 Dominican turnovers into 21 points and pulled down 11 offensive rebounds, besting the Stars 12-0 in second chance points.
Tim Robertson paced the Stars with 16 points in the losing effort while senior
Jonny Woolf eclipsed the 1,000 point milestone for his college career, scoring 15 points on the day and now has 278 on the season.
As a team, the Stars converted at a 39.6-percent clip from the field (21-53), knocking down eight of 26 attempts from three-point distance, while Sabres shot 37.3-percent in the win (22-59), making good on 22 of 27 trips to the free throw line.
Alex Manhardt led four in double-figures for the Sabres with 17 points, adding a game-high 14 rebounds for the double-double. Evan Hansen finished with 16 points while Tristan Van Ess added 13 and Tyrese Pinson had 12.
The Stars return to action on Tuesday, playing host to the Edgewood College Eagles in the Igini Sports Forum for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
