The Dominican University men's basketball team (5-17, 3-14) snapped a ten-game losing streak with a 58-52 win over the visiting Edgewood College Eagles (7-15, 7-10) on Tuesday night at the Igini Sports Forum. The Stars held the Eagles to just 22 points in the second half, limiting Edgewood to just eight field goals over the final 20 minutes.
The Stars trailed 30-24 at the break before using a full-court press to spark an 8-0 Dominican run capped by a
Nick LaVere basket in transition after an Edgewood turnover in the backcourt. After Edgewood scored the next four points, Dominican scored seven straight, including a
Jonny Woolf three with 13:45 to play to put Dominican ahead, 39-35.
The Eagles managed to keep the game close, going 6-for-6 at the foul line in the second half, but every time they angled the lead down, Dominican answered including a driving lay in for Woolf in the final minute after Edgewood pulled within two, 54-52, with 57 seconds to play.
Woolf led the Stars with 16 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists. The senior shot 6-for-12 from the field, including 2-for-6 from three, and converted on both of his attempts from the foul line. Sophomore
Andrew Wojcik added 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting in his third straight appearance in the starting lineup. Robertson and LaVere added ten apiece to round out four in double-figures scoring for Dominican.
Edgewood was led by Emil Radisevic who managed ten points despite 1-for-6 shooting from the field. The 6'6 junior was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line and shared team-high honors with six boards in 22 minutes.
The Stars return to the Igini Sports Forum on Saturday, hosting the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
