The Dominican University men's volleyball team, ranked sixth in this week's AVCA Men's Division III Top 15 Poll, improved to 17-6 on the season with an impressive three-set sweep (25-18, 25-19, 25-13) of the Nazareth College Golden Flyers on Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum. The Stars hit .403 in the winning effort, eclipsing the .400 mark for the sixth time this season.
"We couldn't have ended a tough 24 hours any better," said Dan Pawlikowski, the Stars' first-year head coach. "I'm very excited that we were able to rebound from last night's finish to sweep another quality opponent in Nazareth today. I thought we did a spectacular job of dictating the tempo of the match to start and were able to get better as the match went on. Thanks to a great crowd and good energy, we earned another good team win."
Dominican dominated the stat sheet in the win, posting seven blocks to the Golden Flyers' two; collecting nine aces at the serving line to Nazareth's one; and committing just eight attack errors while the Golden Eagles committed 20.
Freshman setter
Jack McGuire ran Dominican's efficient attack, collecting 28 assists while utilizing all five of his hitters.
Ethan Klosak knocked down a team-high nine kills while
Luke Spicer,
Adam Eboli and
Nick Timreck tallied six kills apiece.
Jake Sidner added five kills while McGuire finished with three kills on five attacks. Eboli and Spicer added a pair of aces at the serving line each.
Defensively, Eboli led the charge at the net with four blocks assists while Timreck and Spicer tallied three block assists apiece. In the back row, Dominican needed just 17 digs total to force 20 attack errors and limit the Golden Flyers to a .158 attack percentage.
The Stars will return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Wednesday, hosting the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons for a 7:00 p.m. match at the Igini Sports Forum.
