Stars Split With Top 15 Opponents

The Dominican University men's volleyball team continued their spring trip on Monday, avenging a loss earlier this season to the #5 UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (25-23, 25-19, 25-17) before falling to the host #15 SUNY New Paltz Hawks (24-26, 26-24, 25-17, 25-23).

The split pushes the Stars to 13-4 overall, including a 3-3 mark against teams ranked in the AVCA Men's Division III Top 15.  After an off day on Monday, Dominican closes out the 2018 Spring Trip on Tuesday, taking on Hunter College at 3:00 p.m. ET before heading to meet the #9 NYU Violets at NYU at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The Stars hit .196 in the win over UCSC getting a match-high 11 kills from senior Luke Spicer and ten kills from sophomore Jake Sidner.  Freshman setter Jack McGuire doled out 31 assists.

Defensively, Dominican allowed the Banana Slugs to hit at just a .066 clip, allowing just 28 kills while collecting 48 digs and totaling eight blocks.  Nick Timreck was a force at the net, posting two solo blocks to go along with four block assists while Klosak added four total blocks.  In the back row, David DeMarco tallied 15 digs to lead the way while Klosak and McGuire added nine and seven digs respectively.

In the loss to the Hawks, it was the Dominican block that kept the Stars in the match.  The Stars posted a season-high 18 blocks led by Timreck who logged 11 assisted blocks and one solo block.  Klosak added eight total blocks (seven assist and one solo) while Adam Eboli added five block assists.  All the blocks forced New Paltz into 32 attack errors.

Offensively, Dominican managed to hit .180, knocking down 34 kills behind McGuire who dished out 26 assists.  Klosak tallied a team-high 11 kills on 25 swings while Spicer and Sidner managed seven kills apiece.
