The Dominican University softball team scored a 2-0 win in game one at MSOE on Sunday afternoon before coming up on the wrong side of a 5-3 decision in eight innings in game two to move to 8-14 overall and 2-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
Â
The series opener saw a dominating pitching performance from sophomore
Cat Klostermann who improved to 4-6 on the season, tossing her fifth complete-game of the season. Klostermann surrendered just five hits and one walk while striking out seven in the winning effort.
Â
Offensively,
Jacadi Rivera provided all the offense Klostermann needed when she deposited a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left with one away. The blast was the first of the season for the junior. Klostermann than added an insurance run to help herself later in the frame, roping a double to right to plate
Sydney Kuderna who had doubled earlier in the inning.
Â
In total the Stars managed eight hits in the game one victory, two apiece for Kuderna and Klostermann.
Â
In game two, the Stars jumped out a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when
CJ Mardirosian doubled down the left field line to score Klostermann before MSOE struck for three runs on three hits, all doubles, in the bottom of the third to pull in front, 3-2 after three innings.
Â
The Stars evened the score in the top of the fourth with a one-out RBI single by
Cecilia Winters McCarthy, scoring Rivera from second.
Â
Dominican left a pair of runners on in each of the seventh and eighth innings before Raiders walked off in the eighth when Kim White belted a one-out, two-run home run to center off of Klostermann who entered the game in the top of the fourth.
Â
Klostermann took the loss in the circle, tossing four-plus innings in relief of Kuderna who surrendered three runs on four hits and walk over the first three innings.
Â
Offensively, the Stars picked up nine hits but stranded ten runners on base.Â
Ali Woitovich was a perfect 4-for-4 in game two with four singles while Winters McCarthy finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Â
The Stars will continue to navigate the NACC on Wednesday, traveling to Mequon, Wisconsin, for a conference doubleheader against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. The twin bill is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.
