Just four days after reporting for the 2018 preseason, the Dominican University men's soccer team got their first taste of outside competition, topping an experienced Judson University Eagles squad, 2-0, in exhibition action.
Â
"Tonight's scrimmage was a fast-paced and physical contest against a very good side," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' 24
th-year head coach. "Our work rate and compete level was impressive. The group has done a very good job coming together in just four days. There are a lot of positives to take away from tonight and a lot that we can take back to the training field to work to continue to improve."
Â
Baumann's Stars' got a tally in each of the 45-minute halves with Nico Vitale finishing off a penalty after the junior forward drew a foul near the top of the 18-yard box midway through the first half before Dominican's Alexander Lulek headed home a set piece in the second half for the 2-0 final.
Â
Dominican has two more scrimmages, taking on Wheaton College on Thursday and Millikin on Saturday, before opening the regular season slate on Friday, August 31, when the Illinois College Blueboys visit the Stars in River Forest.
