Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Rout Regents

The Dominican University women's soccer team stuffed the stat sheet on Wednesday afternoon at West Campus Field, routing the visiting Rockford University Regents 14-0 to win their third straight contest and move to 3-2-0 on the season.

The Stars wasted no time, scoring in the second minute of play when Maggie McClure's corner kick service skipped off the head of a Rockford defender and found its way under the crossbar and into the back of the goal.  Before the end of the first half, Dominican had added four more tallies, including two goals by Josseline Williams and the first goal of the season for freshman Michelle Ulloque.

The Stars managed 34 shots in the first half alone, putting 15 on frame and forcing Rockford's Samantha Bergeron to make ten saves over the first 45 minutes.

"We did not really play all that well during the first half," commented Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head coach. "We generated a number of shots but couldn't finish as well as we could have and should have. We did stay organized in the back and never allowed Rockford to generate any momentum going forward."

Just as they did in the first half, Dominican tallied an early second half goal with Leah Kostos knocking in her first goal of the season less than three minutes into the half.  Over the course of the remainder of the game, Dominican found even more success in finishing, adding on nine more goals over the next 30 minutes before Ulloque capped the scoring in the 77th minute with her third goal of the match.

Ulloque was one of three players to finish with a hat trick.  Williams matched her two first half goals in the second half to finish the match with four while playing just 56 minutes while Holli Cochran notched her first collegiate hat trick, logging 64 minutes in the winning effort.

"We seemed to have more desire in the final third in the second half," said Carrillo. "We need to build off that half and carry that momentum into our two matches this weekend to keep moving in a positive direction."

The Stars are set to host Greenville University on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff before making their way north to Michigan to meet the Albion College Britons on Saturday afternoon.
