The Dominican University women's soccer team scored a 2-0 win over the visiting Greenville University Panthers on Friday afternoon at West Campus Field, pushing the Stars to 4-2-0 on the season with their fourth straight shutout.
Â
"We played really well today," said Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head coach in his fifth season. "I was very proud of our team. We possessed really well; controlled the momentum and pace throughout the 90 minutes. Again we came out with focus and intensity. I really like how we are developing as a team."
Â
As they did in their home opener on Wednesday, the Stars opened the scoring early with
Josseline Williams getting on the end of
Maggie McClure's corner kick service with a header inside the back post in just the seventh minute of play.
Â
The Stars continued to dominate possession throughout the remainder of the first half and into the second until Williams struck again, notching her tenth goal of the season in the 66
th minute when the Panthers gave up a restart to Dominican from just twenty yards out. Williams buried the ensuing free kick to the upper-90 inside the near post.
Â
Dominican never really let Greenville threaten, allowing just four shots all match and letting just two on frame. In goal,
Pamela Ruiz and
Abbey Brown combined for the shutout victory.
Â
The Stars will have a short recovery, returning to the pitch tomorrow afternoon. Dominican will travel to Albion College in Albion, Michigan, for a 6:00 PM ET kickoff.
