Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Blanked By Vikings

The Dominican University men's soccer team lost their second straight, falling 2-0 to the #12 North Park University Vikings on Saturday afternoon in River Forest, Illinois, to drop to 3-2-0 on the season.

Dominican University freshman goalkeeper Daniel Dominguez made four saves in the losing effort as North Park outshot the Stars 19-3, with shots on goal much closer at 6-2.

"Dominguez played another great game for us," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach following the loss. "His leadership and compete level were fantastic."

The Stars had the first scoring opportunity of the match when Carlos Ramos played a ball from Dominican's defensive end over the Vikings' back line.  Jonathan Hernandez tracked down the long ball heading it central to Nicolo Vitale who took a touch forward before getting off a right-foot shot that was stopped by North Park's Edin Sabovic—one of two saves for the Vikings' goalkeeper.

Eight minutes later, in the ninth minute of play, the Vikings' capitalized on one of their first scoring chances when Deni Cresto struck from 19 yards out, beating Dominguez to the far post.

Dominican had a chance to equalize late in the first half when Marco Sanchez was slipped behind on a through ball from Denis Soldo.  Sanchez took one too many touches, leading right into Sabovic who raced off his line, sliding to take the ball of Sanchez's foot.

Dominican had another early opportunity in the second half with Vitale putting another shot on frame in the 49th minute, settling a bouncing ball before getting off a shot through traffic from six-yards out that Sabovic turned away.  North Park returned to its possession game, and added an insurance tally in the 61st minute when Peder Olsen's centering pass hit off a sliding Dominican defender and ended up in the back of the goal.

The Stars will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday, traveling to Rockford, Illinois, to take on the Rockford University Regents in Dominican's Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) opener.  Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Sportscore Two – Wedgbury Stadium.
