Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Blank Regents To Open Conference Play

The Dominican University men's soccer team opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Rockford University Regents on Wednesday night at Wedgbury Stadium in Rockford, Illinois.  With the win the Stars improve to 4-2-0 on the season, returning home to host the Marian University Sabres on Saturday afternoon at West Campus Field.

Dominican's Nicolo Vitale scored what proved to be the game-winner when the junior opened the game's scoring in the 15th minute of play.  The Stars played with the lead the rest of the way, adding a pair of insurance goals in the 74th minute.  Cesar Franco headed a corner from Josh Prindle seconds before Ethan Grosam netted his first goal of the season to cap the day's scoring.

The Stars held a 15-12 advantage in shots with each side putting seven shots on goal.  Dominican's Daniel Dominguez collected seven saves to pick up his third shutout of the season and lower his goals against average to a league-best 0.67 in 540 minutes in goal.

"We got some good contributions from our bench tonight," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' head men's soccer coach, after his team went twenty players deep in the winning effort. "It wasn't a pretty game but it is nice to get back to a shutout win."
