Stars Run Win Streak To Five

The Dominican University women's soccer team ran their current winning streak to five matches with a 2-0 win over the Albion College Britons on the road Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Stars improve to 5-2-0, closing out the seven-match non-conference portion of their schedule.

"I was very proud of our performance today," said Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head coach, following the win. "We had a slow start but managed to stay organized and control most of the game. We created some good opportunities and scored two nice goals."

Dominican opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the play when Josseline Williams received a pass from Gabby Green through traffic before finishing into the side netting.  For Williams, the goal was the 11th of the season as the junior continues to build off a sophomore season that saw her score a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference-best 31 goals.

The Stars played with the lead the rest of the evening, adding an insurance tally in the 83rd minute when Tania Paez found the back of the goal for her second goal of the season.

Dominican outshot the host Britons 12-6, putting five shots on frame to Albion's three.  Abbey Brown, making her fifth start of the season, logged three saves to pick up her third shutout of the season.

"This was a great two days for our team," said Carrillo reflecting on his team's win over Greenville on Friday and Saturday's win over Albion. "We look forward to some rest and the start of our conference season this week."

The Stars will return to River Forest, hosting the Alverno College Inferno for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday afternoon.
