The Dominican University women's soccer team opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Wednesday afternoon, rolling over the Alverno College Inferno, 14-0 at West Campus Field. The win was the Stars' sixth straight, improving to 6-2-0 on the 2018 season.
"This is an exciting time of year," commented Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head women's soccer coach. "Our goal this season is to win conference and the first seven games of the season have prepared us for the conference schedule ahead of us. We came in ready and took the game to Alverno from the opening whistle. We got good minutes from just about everyone. Hopefully our depth will carry us through the next six weeks of league games."
The Stars completely dominated the stat sheet, firing off 65 shots and putting 44 of those on frame while holding their opponent to zero shots for the third time this season. Freshmen
Holli Cochran and
Michelle Ulloque finished with three goals apiece while
Josseline Williams and
Tania Paez added two each.
Daniela Tovar-Miranda,
Leah Kostos,
Danielle Mason and
Ashleigh Huerta all netted before the match was stopped in the 80
th minute due to lightning.
Dominican will look to run its winning streak to seven games on Saturday, hosting the Marian University Sabres for a noon kickoff at West Campus Field as part of the university's homecoming 2018.
