The Dominican University men's soccer team won their second consecutive Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) contest, topping the Marian University Sabres 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at West Campus Field. The shutout was the Stars' fourth of the season, improving to 5-2-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in league play.
"This was a good team win," commented Erick Baumann, the Stars' head men's soccer coach. "We did a nice job executing the system today and it was nice to do it in front of our alums. It's been great having them back on campus this weekend for homecoming. We have such a strong group of former players that have stayed committed to our program and the university. Their support is awesome."
Dominican wasted little time, getting on the board in just the second minute of play when
Denis Soldo centered a pass that
Josh Prindle got on the end of for a shot to the near post that beat Marian's Ian Chacon. Just five minutes later, Prindle netted his second goal of the match when
Isaac Perez's throw bounced through the box where
Nicolo Vitale was able to run it down and slot a pass to the goal mouth that Prindle poked past Chacon.
After assisting on the first goal, Soldo was on the receiving end of a Vitale assist in the 14
th minute. Vitale won a Sabres' goal kick just inside of midfield before slipping a pass through the Sabre backline where Soldo made a run into the box and finished with his right foot into the side netting of the far post.
Cesar Franco capped the first half scoring with a header after
Giacomo Parrino served a ball from the right of the 18-yard box that Franco headed back to the far post for his second goal of the season.
The Stars netted a pair of second half goals, the first coming in the 55
th minute by
Marco Sanchez before Perez finished off the match with his fifth goal of the season in the 84
th minute.
Dominican dominated possession throughout the match, getting off 36 shots—18 in each half—while allowing just one shot through to
Daniel Dominguez who made one save while playing the first half to improve to 5-2-0 in goal for the season. Sophomore
Brendon Martin closed out the shutout while playing the final 45 minutes in goal for the Stars.
The Stars will look to win their third straight on Wednesday, traveling to Milwaukee to take on the MSOE Raiders at 7:00 p.m. at Viets Field.
