The Dominican University women's soccer team dropped to 0-2-0 on the 2018 season, falling 3-1 to the Webster University Gorloks on Monday afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri.
Â
"This was another opportunity for us to continue to improve," commented Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head women's soccer coach. "We came with the right intensity and had them on their heels for the first twenty minutes. Unfortunately we found ourselves unorganized and credit to Webster for capitalizing on their opportunities."
Â
It was Webster that opened the scoring in the 12
th minute of play before Dominican was able to level the score in the 22
nd minute when freshman #Holli Cochran# was able to knock home a bouncing ball in front of the Webster goal for her first goal of the season.
Â
Webster pulled back ahead before the half and then added an insurance in the second half to cap the day's scoring.
Â
For the second consecutive match, Dominican outshot its opponent, firing 18 shots to the Gorloks' 14 and managing to put 11 on frame while Webster put seven on target. Webster's Alisa Coralic posted ten saves in the winning effort.
Â
"This is going to be another game for us to pick apart and learn from," continued Carrillo. "We saw a lot of good things within our team and what we are capable of doing as a team. We just have to capitalize on our opportunities. We worked hard and created good opportunities but didn't reward that effort with goals."
Â
Dominican will look to break into the win column on Thursday, traveling to De Pere, Wisconsin, to meet the St. Norbert College Green Knights. Kickoff in that contest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
