The Dominican University men's basketball team dropped an 81-76 game to the visiting Rockford University Regents on Saturday evening at the Igini Sports Forum. The game featured 16 lead changes and nine ties with Rockford scoring the final eight points over the game's final two-and-a-half minutes to top the Stars.
Isaac Moore game the Stars a three-point, 76-73, lead with 2:55 to play before Brandon Emerick buried a corner three to even the score with 2:31 to play and sparking an 8-0 run to close out the game for the Regents. The game-tying three was one of just two threes in the game for Rockford who shot just 2-for-12 from three-point distance.
After Tony Diemer scored two of his game-high 20 points and Taylor Krocker split a pair of free throws, Dominican had a chance to tie the game in the final fifteen seconds but turned the ball over before Rockford sank a pair of free throws to seal the win.
Jackson Smith led three in double-figures scoring for Dominican, dropping in 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting. Isaac Moore added 17 points off the Stars' bench while Dennis Handy finished with 14. As a team, Dominican shot 27-for-64, going 12-for-32 from three-point range.
Diemer led the way for Rockford, going 7-for-17 from the field and converting on all six of his attempts from the foul line. Krocker chipped in 17 off the bench while Emerick finished with ten.
Dominican, now 2-13 on the season and 2-8 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, will host Edgewood College on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at the Igini Sports Forum.
