The Dominican University women's basketball team came up on the short end of a 62-58 contest with the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on Saturday afternoon, falling to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).Â

The Stars led by as many as seven in the first half before the Cougars used an 11-6 run to close out the second quarter and narrow the gap to 32-29 at the break. The Cougars then scored the first six points of the second half, pulling in front 35-32. Dominican answered with a four-point spurt with baskets by
Alexis Hoskins and
Timiya Ray to pull back in front. However, Concordia pulled back in front on Crystal Corr's layup with 5:57 remaining in the third quarter and Dominican would not lead the rest of the afternoon.

The Cougars built their lead all the way to eight, 57-49, when Kayla Horlacher got a three to go down with 1:53 to play. The Stars narrowed the gap all the way down to two, 60-58, when
Alisha Markley knocked down a three with 12 seconds to play before the Cougars put the game away with two free throws in the final ten seconds.

Hoskins led the way in the loss for Dominican, scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Markley added ten points as the Stars shot just 20-for-72 from the field, including going 3-for-18 from three.

Sam Bloom led three in double-figures scoring for the Cougars, dropping in 15 points on 6-for-13 shooting. Michaela Thornton and Horlacher added 12 points apiece.

The Stars will play their fourth straight road game on Tuesday, traveling to Aurora, Illinois, to take on the Aurora University Spartans. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
