The Dominican University men's soccer team logged their fourth straight win and sixth consecutive shutout with a 4-0 blanking of the Rockford University Regents at Dominican's West Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Stars improve to 7-2-2 on the season and a perfect 3-0-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.
"It was nice to see some guys come off the bench and give some good minutes," commented
Erick Baumann, the Stars' head men's soccer coach. "It was also nice to see a couple of players score their first collegiate goals. With that said, it was a lackluster effort by just about all of our starters today. We didn't come close to leading, playing or competing anywhere near the standards we have set for ourselves. We need to be better. Period."
The Stars dominated the stat sheet, peppering the Rockford goalkeeper, Francesco Martincig, with 20 shots, including putting eight on frame, while allowing just two total shots, one on goal, by the Rockford attack. Dominican also earned nine corners, including the one that setup up what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 19
th minute of play.
Randy Pietrowski scored the game's first goal, and the first of his career, when he got on the end of
Vicente Castro's corner kick service, heading a shot past Martincig.
Pietrowski's score was the lone tally of the first half with Dominican not breaking through again until the 59
th minute when
Isaac Perez knocked in his team-leading sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick.
Dominican than broke the match open in the 83
rd minute, with
Denis Soldo scoring after receiving a slotted pass from Perez. Just over a minute later, freshman
Kaleb Patterson gained the endline up the right side before sending a cross for the back side where classmate
Dawson Strysick headed it home for his first career tally.
Daniel Dominguez played all 90 minutes in goal for the Stars, picking up his sixth shutout of the year.
The Stars return to action on Saturday, traveling up to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, where they will battle the Marian University Sabres in a NACC contest. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
