The Dominican University women's soccer team ran its winning streak to 12 matches with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on Wednesday evening at the Stars' West Campus Field. With the win, the Stars improve to 15-1-0 overall and 9-0-0 in conference play to clinch at least a share of the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) regular season championship.
"We wanted to come out fast and hard," said
Josseline Williams, the Stars' senior forward. "The past couple of games we had trouble scoring early and today we wanted to do that and put the game away as quickly as possible and we were able to do that."
Ashleigh Huerta scored the eventual game-winner in just the fifth minute of play when Williams played a perfect through-ball, sending Huerta to the top of the 18 behind the Cougars' back line. Huerta took just two touches before rolling shot to the near post with Concordia's goalkeeper starting to creep forward off her line.
In the 19
th minute, it was
Regan Coxon getting on the end of
Maggie McClure's corner service at the top of the six-yard box for her 19
th goal of the season.
Dominican tacked on another score before halftime with
Hannah DiSilverio getting on the end of a ball played over the Cougars' back line. DiSilverio chipped up and over the goalkeeper before walking the ball into the goal.
Williams later added an insurance goal in the 57
th minute, putting a right-footed laser into the back of the Concordia goal after making a move around a couple of Cougars near the top of the 18-yard box.
The Stars outshot the Cougars 18-7 in the win, putting 13 shots on goal to Concordia's four. Dominican also earned four corners while surrendering just one.
