Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Stars Cut Down Regents

The Dominican University women's volleyball team took out its frustrations from a Friday night setback with a three-set sweep (25-23, 25-17, 25-8) of the Rockford University Regents on the road Saturday night.  The Stars, behind setters Anastasia Labadessa (21 assists) and Natalie Jones (12 assists), hit .267, including .464 in the third set, to get back into the win column.  The Stars now stand at 13-5 on the season and climb back to .500, 2-2, in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.

"It was great to see us get back on track today," commented Cameron Andrew, the Stars' head coach, following his squad's convincing win. "We carried over some of our offensive struggles from last night early, but once we were able to get a little momentum, we really ran away with things. I was proud of the contributions we got from those that came off the bench tonight. Whatever numbers were called, those players were ready and did a nice job."

Freshman Keely McCallum led ten different attackers with a team-high ten kills.  The rookie hit .300 on 20 total swings, committing just four errors.  Sophomore Gabija Sinickaite added seven kills on just 18 attacks while rookie Ola Magiera was a perfect 6-for-6 while playing in the match's final two sets.

Defensively, the Stars forced the host Regents to a .010 attack percentage, coercing Rockford into 19 attack errors in 99 swings.  Sarah Lychock and Summer Smith led the back row effort with 18 and 12 digs respectively while four different players logged two total blocks as Dominican had five blocks as a team.

After playing 17 of their first 18 matches on the road, Dominican returns to the Igini Sports Forum for a trio of matches next week, hosting the MSOE Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the Marian University Sabres at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons at noon on Saturday.

"We are really looking forward to some home matches this coming week and getting back in front of our own crowd," said Cameron Andrew. "We need to get back to stringing together some more wins."
