The Dominican University women's volleyball team returned home for just the second time on the season, cruising past the MSOE Raiders in three sets (25-16, 25-12, 25-19) on Tuesday night at the Igini Sports Forum to improve to 14-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars hit .314 in the winning effort, their most efficient offensive performance since hitting .354 in a three-set win over Buena Vista back on September 14.
"I'm really with how our team played tonight," said
Cameron Andrew, the Stars' second-year head coach. "We did a great job controlling all aspects of the game. It was the most complete and consistent match we have played in a few weeks. We've been working on aggressive attacking over the last week and saw that hard work come through tonight. I'm really proud of how the team performed."
The Stars' offense, firing on all cylinders, saw nine different attackers log at least one kill, paced by
Haley Notzen's nine kills on just 14 swings. The junior committed just one error all night, hitting .571, tops for any Dominican attacker with more than five swings. Freshman
Keely McCallum also topped a .500 hitting percentage, knocking down eight kills on 13 swings with one error.
Gabija Sinickaite added seven kills for the Stars' attack while
Gillian Jones and
Olivia Magnussen knocked down five kills apiece.
Anastasia Labadessa and
Natalie Jones ran the Dominican attack, dishing out 21 and 16 assists respectively. The duo combined for all but six of Dominican's 43 assists.
Dominican set the tone for the night at the serving line, making aggressive serves throughout the match. During one stretch during the second set,
Natalie Jones stepped back to serve three straight aces. The Stars finished the night with nine aces total, five of them coming in the third set alone.
Defensively, the Stars held the Raiders to a .105 attack percentage, forcing 14 errors while allowing just 23 kills on 86 attempts. The Dominican block posted five total blocks with Magnussen playing a role on all of them. In the back row, it was libero
Sarah Lychock that picked up a match-high 18 digs.
Dominican returns to the hardwood at the Igini Sports Forum on Friday, hosting the Marian University Sabres for a 7:00 p.m. match. Dominican then has a quick turnaround, playing host to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons at noon on Saturday.
