Stars Topped By Eagles In Road Action

The Dominican University women's basketball team slipped to 5-3 on the season and 2-2 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, suffering a 73-62 setback at the hands of the Benedictine University Eagles on the road in Lisle, Illinois, on Saturday afternoon.  After scoring 44 first half points and opening a 44-33 lead at the break, the Stars managed just 18 points on four field goals over the game's final 20 minutes.
 
Timiya Ray scored 22 of her game-high 24 points in the first half, shooting 8-for-11 from the field including 3-for-4 from three during the game's first 20 minutes. The Eagles managed to limit Ray to just two free throws the rest of the way.
 
Ray's three in the final thirty seconds of the first half, gave the Stars a 44-30 lead, equaling their largest lead of the afternoon before Benedictine's Britney Pitzer knocked down a three of her own in the final seconds of the second quarter, sparking an 14-3 run for the Eagles to trim the Stars' lead down to three, 47-44 midway through the third. 
 
The Eagles' continued to cut into the Stars' lead throughout the third quarter, knotting the game at 55-55 when Hanna Piro converted a pair of free throws with 21 seconds remaining in the period.
 
Benedictine limited Dominican to just one fourth quarter field goal while shooting 5-for-12 from the field and going 8-for-10 at the foul line to finish off the second half comeback.
 
Ray added 11 rebounds to log her fourth double-double of the season while Alexis Hoskins tallied 13 points, eight boards, five steals and four assists before fouling out.
 
For the Eagles, Claire Gibler led four in double-figures scoring with 19 points.  Allison Michalski added 17 points while Alex Fanning finished the afternoon with 13 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
 
Dominican will head to Wisconsin Lutheran next Saturday for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff against the Warriors.  The Stars will be looking to snap a 31-game losing streak to the Warriors dating back to 2002.
