Box Score The Dominican University women's volleyball team needed just over fifty minutes to win their first match of the season, topping the Finlandia University Lions in three sets (25-10, 25-10, 25-11).
Summer Smith led the way for the Stars' attack that hit .397 for the match while using 11 different hitters.
"It was a great start to the season and a good warmup for tomorrow," said
Cameron Andrew, the Stars' second-year head coach following the win. "We were able to get a lot of people some playing time which is always a positive early in the season. We will have some stiffer competition tomorrow so we are looking to getting after it."
Playing in just two sets, Smith knocked down a team-high five kills on just seven swings. The junior added a team-high ten digs to round out the all-around effort.
Playing in her first collegiate match,
Ola Magiera hit a blistering .857 with six kills on seven attempts while
Gabija Sinickaite, the 2018 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC)
Freshman of the Year, added four kills on just eight attack attempts.
The Stars used four different setters in the win with
Natalie Jones dishing out 12 assists and
Madeline Morrow adding ten.
Anastasia Labadessa doled out six assists while playing in just the first set of the night.
Dominican, 1-0, returns to action on Saturday, taking on Bethany Lutheran College and Ripon College as the Stars close out the Ripon College Quad.
