Playing in St. Louis on Friday night, the Dominican University men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of the Washington University Bears. The loss drops the Stars to 2-2-1 with a return to the pitch on Sunday as Dominican takes on Fontbonne University before returning back to River Forest.
"WashU is a very strong side," said
Erick Baumann, the Stars' head men's soccer coach. "While the loss is tough, we are still searching for our team identity as we work through our non-conference schedule to prepare for the conference season which is still more than a week away."
The Bears scored a pair of first half goals just over two minutes apart to open a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Stars appeared to pull within a goal early in the second half when
Isaac Perez beat the Bears' goalkeeper but the score was waived off as the Stars were whistled for an offside.
As the game opened up and action went from endline to endline, the Bears added a late insurance tally in the 89
th minute of play for the lone score in the second half.
Daniel Dominguez made six saves in taking the loss.
