Six different players scored as the Dominican University men's soccer team topped the Fontbonne University Griffins, 6-0, in St. Louis on Sunday afternoon. The win pushes the Stars to 3-2-1 on the season with a matchup against the North Central College Cardinals on deck for Wednesday afternoon.
"The guys worked hard all over the field today," said
Erick Baumann, the Stars' head men's soccer coach in his 25
th season. "Despite the extreme heat, we earned the type of box score that we were playing for."
The Stars completely dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the host Griffins 30-4 and did not allow a single shot on frame.
Daniel Dominguez, picking up his third shutout of the season, did not have to make a save despite playing the full 90 minutes.
Vicente Castro scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 31
st minute.
Giacomo Parrino scored less than a minute later while
Jesus Lopez netted his first goal of the season in the 35
th minute as the Stars opened a 3-0 lead at the half.
The Stars added three more in the second half as
Isaac Perez and
Nicolo Vitale scored just 73 seconds apart in the 53
rd and 54
th minutes respectively before
Chris Linkenbach put a bow on Dominican's third win of the young season with a goal in the 84
th minute.
