The Dominican University women's soccer team saw their three-match winning streak come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling on the road to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans, 3-1. The loss drops the Stars to 3-1 on the season with a matchup against the UW-Platteville Pioneers on deck for Tuesday in Platteville, Wisconsin.
The Stars outshot the Titans 10-7 and put seven shots on frame to Oshkosh's four but only managed to find the back of the goal once in the 76
th minute when
Josseline Williams got on the end of
Maggie McClure's corner kick service, heading home her second goal of the season. The tally cut the Titans' lead to 2-1 before Oshkosh added a late insurance goal.
"We created more than enough good opportunities to score," said
Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head women's soccer coach, "but we could not capitalize on them. Despite the outcome, I was proud of the effort and grit the team showed throughout the 90 minutes. We look forward to getting back on the practice turf to continue to grow."
With the game at 1-0 in the 49
th minute, Dominican nearly leveled the score.
Danielle Mason's header off of another McClure corner ricocheted off the cross bar. Less than five minutes later the Titans beat Dominican's
Abbey Brown on a shot from 20-yards out to open the 2-0 lead.
