The Dominican University women's soccer team got back into the win column on Tuesday night, improving to 4-1-0 on the season with a 3-0 win over the UW-Platteville Pioneers in Platteville, Wisconsin. The Stars completely dominated possession, allowing the Pioneers just one shot through the 90 minutes of play.
"It was nice to see our team come out with energy today,"
Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head women's soccer coach, said following the win. "We did a nice job of controlling the match with our pressure and possession. It was a great team win and a nice way to bounce back after a loss."
Josseline Williams netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 35
th minute of play, the lone goal scored in the first half.
The Stars then added a pair of late insurance tallies with
Hannah DiSilverio and
Ashleigh Huerta scoring in the 78
th and 82
nd minutes respectively.
Facing just one shot,
Ashley Ishman picked up the shutout in goal, making one save in her first collegiate start.
Dominican fired 17 shots and earned 16 corner kicks in the winning effort.
Dominican returns to its West Campus pitch on Saturday, taking on the Albion College Britons in the Stars' homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
