Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Play Cardinals To Scoreless Draw

The Dominican University men's soccer team returned to River Forest after a weekend in St. Louis, playing the North Central College Cardinals to a scoreless draw at West Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon.  With the result, the Stars move to 3-2-2 on the season with one non-conference game remaining before opening the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) slate next week.

"We tried something different today and the game was a grind," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' long-tenured head coach. "I'm glad we got our fourth clean sheet but we need to be better in the final third and finish a ball. Competitive games are tight and that's exactly how this match went."

The two Central Region foes proved evenly matched throughout the afternoon with Dominican holding a slight, 11-10, advantage in shots and a slight advantage in possession, controlling the ball for 54-percent of the match.  Both team's made four saves with Dominican's Daniel Dominguez picking up his fourth shutout of the season.  Dominguez made three saves, two coming in the match's second overtime period.  In the 103rd minute, Dominguez made a diving stop on North Central's Alexis Flores with the rebound going right to the foot of Elmer Eng with Dominguez still on the turf. Eng got off a right-footed shot that was ticketed for the goal until Nicolo Vitale headed it away from trouble, keeping the game scoreless.

The Stars managed nine shots through regular time but had what might have been their best opportunity to score stopped with Isaac Perez shook off one defender near midfield before getting grabbed by the waist by North Central's Spencer Wiese to stop Perez from a potential breakaway.  Wiese was shown a yellow for the foul, the lone caution issued in the match.

The Stars return to the West Campus turf on Saturday, hosting Millikin University for Dominican's homecoming match.  Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
