Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Cruise To Fifth Straight Win

The Dominican University women's basketball team coasted to its fifth straight win, improving to 10-4 on the season and 6-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a 74-52 win at Rockford University over the Regents on Thursday evening.  The Stars will look to keep their winning ways going on Saturday, traveling to Lakeland University for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff with the Muskies.

"Winning on the road is never easy in the NACC," said Amanda Parker, the Stars' second-year head coach, following the win. "We started off very slowly and needed to refocus. It was good to see us turn up the pressure and convert on the fast break opportunities. It was nice to find contributions from our bench.  They gave us the energy necessary to separate ourselves from Rockford tonight. Every game is a big one and its' important to learn from today and carry it on the road on Saturday."

After a tight first quarter, the Stars shook off their slow start and doubled up the Regents in the second quarter, 24-12, to open a 38-25 lead at the break and never looked back.

Alexis Hoskins, playing in just 17 minutes, scored a team-high 16 points to pace the Stars.  The senior guard shot 6-for-8 from the field, including 2-for-3 from three, and added four rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.  Amari Stafford and Timiya Ray rounded out three in double-figures scoring for the Stars, adding 13 and 12 points respectively.  Ray added a team-high nine rebounds as Dominican controlled the glass, holding a 40-31 advantage.

Dominican's bench scored 20 points on the night and allowed Dominican's starters to shorten up on minutes with only two players logging more than 20 minutes for the Stars.  Ashley Rivera logged 14 minutes and scored a season-high eight points off the bench.

For the Regents, Emily Cox scored a game-high 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting.  Linzy Keller added 18 points in the loss but the rest of the Regents combined for just 12 points on 5-for-17 shooting.
