The Dominican University women's basketball team ran its winning streak to seven games and improved to 12-4 on the season with a 49-39 win at MSOE on Wednesday night in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. The Stars overcame a subpar shooting night by controlling the glass, 39-28, and limiting the host Raiders to just five offensive rebounds and three second-chance points.
"Definitely not the prettiest of wins for us," said
Amanda Parker, the Stars' second-year head coach. "We were very lackadaisical on both ends of the floor. We need to be much better on Saturday—or we will not like the outcome."
Alexis Hoskins scored a team-high 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field and pulled down nine rebounds for Dominican in the win.
Timiya Ray added 11 points and six boards while
Nyema Burns finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
Zianna Goda finished with six points and
Amari Stafford and
Alessandra Cappussi added five points apiece as the Stars' offense shot 18-for-50 from the field and 5-for-18 from three.
For the Raiders, Amy Reiser scored a game-high 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three, and going 4-for-4 from the foul line. The rest of the Raiders' lineup combined for just 19 points on 7-for-37 shooting.
Dominican, now 8-3 in the NACC and in a tie for fourth in the conference standings, will host the league-leading Benedictine University Eagles on Saturday at the Igini Sports Forum. Tipoff in that affair is slated for 4:15 p.m.
