Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Never Trail In Win Over Inferno

The Dominican University women's basketball team never trailed in a 70-58 win over the Alverno College Inferno on Saturday evening at the Igini Sports Forum.  The win pushes the Stars to 14-6 on the season and 10-5 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) entering the final five games of the 2019-20 regular season.

"Even though we squeaked away with a win today," said Amanda Parker, the Stars' head women's basketball coach, "it was very disappointing play by our team overall. We didn't communicate on the defensive end at all and there was zero energy nor an urgency to excel within our strengths."

Timiya Ray and Hannah Currant combined for 39 points in the win for Dominican. Ray did the bulk of her damage in the first half, scoring 16 of her team-high 20 before halftime while Currant scored 17 of her season-high 19 after the break, including 12 in the third quarter.

As a team, the Stars shot just over forty-percent from the field, 28-for-69, with Currant and Ray combining for 17 field goals on 21 attempts.  Currant went 8-for-9 from the field, scoring at will from inside the paint in the second half.  Ray was 9-for-12 from the field, adding three rebounds, four steals, an assist and a block in 27 minutes.

For the Inferno, Eniya Madden scored a game-high 27 points on 8-for-17 shooting and converting on 11 of 16 attempts from the foul line.  The rest of the Inferno lineup managed just nine field goals in the loss.

Dominican will look to avenge a loss from early this season, traveling up to Madison, Wisconsin, for a meeting with the Edgewood College Eagles on Wednesday.  Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Edgedome.
