Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Sweep Season Series From Neighborhood Rival

The Dominican University women's basketball team finished off the season sweep of the Concordia University Chicago Cougars with a 63-52 on the road in the River Forest Rivalry series on Saturday evening.  With the win, the Stars improve to 17-7 on the season and 13-6 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play with one regular season game to play before the six-team NACC Tournament which the Stars have already secured a spot.

"It is always intense and exciting when we head down the street to play," claimed Amanda Parker, the Stars' second-year head women's basketball coach. "We didn't play our best basketball, but we overcame some adversity—missing one of our starters and dealing with early foul trouble—and managed to come together as a team and prevailed in the end."

The Stars never trailed by more than one point the entire game and held the lead for nearly 34 minutes of game time.  Hannah Currant came off the Stars' bench, scoring a game-high 29 points.  Playing the entire second quarter, Currant went 6-for-6 from the field, scoring 12 of Dominican's 17 points in the frame as the Stars built a 30-25 lead at the break they would not relinquish.

The Cougars managed to trim the lead all the way down to two, 49-47, with just over eight minutes to play, but the Stars answered with a 14-5 run to close out the game.

The Stars dominated the glass, outrebounding the host Cougars 60-38, grabbing 42 boards on the defensive end of the floor.  Alexis Hoskins and Timiya Ray led the effort on the glass, pulling down 17 and 12 rebounds respectively.  Ray rounded out a double-double with 11 points despite being limited to just 22 minutes of floor time.

The Stars will return to action, closing out the 2019-20 regular season on Wednesday, hosting the Marian University Sabres for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.  The Stars will be gunning for their 18th win of the season, the most in a season since going 19-9 during the 2011-2012 season.
