Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Stars Overpower #15 Benedictine

The seventh-ranked Dominican University men's volleyball team remained perfect on the season, picking up a road win over a top-15 opponent with a three-set sweep (25-22, 26-24, 25-16) of the #15 Benedictine University Eagles on Saturday afternoon at the Rice Center in Lisle, Illinois.  With the win, the Stars run their overall record to an unblemished 9-0 with three wins over AVCA Top 15 teams.

"I am very proud of our team today," said Cameron Andrew, the Stars' head men's volleyball coach. "I think this was our most controlled match from start to finish all season—but I still think we have room to grow and that is super exciting. We did a great job of sticking to our game plan, especially with our block. We did a great job blocking in the first and third set while Benedictine made some adjustments in the second. Once we countered their move, we got back into a groove. Offensively, George Kougan was fantastic today. He carried our offense."

Kougan finished with a match-high 17 kills on 32 total attacks, hitting .438 for the day.  The sophomore added four block assists to cap the match with a total of 19 points.

Jack McGuire ran the Stars' offense to a .267 hitting percentage with 35 kills. For the match, McGuire doled out 29 assists while using six different attackers.

Defensively, Dominican's block nearly stalled the Benedictine attack, limiting the Eagles to just 36 kills on 103 swings while forcing 26 errors, including 11 Dominican blocks.  Mat Molloy led the effort at the net, collecting five block assists and two solo blocks.  Troy Kates added two solo and two assisted blocks.

In the back row, Ethan Klosak, Bregin DeMarco and McGuire all collected eight digs apiece as Dominican picked up 31 digs for the match.

Dominican returns to action on Friday, taking on the Augustana College Vikings in a 7:00 p.m. match at Dominican's Igini Sports Forum.  The Stars then host Loras College on Saturday before getting back to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play a week from Tuesday when the Aurora University Spartans visit Dominican in River Forest.
