Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Second Quarter Pushes Aurora Past Dominican

Aurora, IL – The Dominican University women's basketball team trailed by just five, 20-15, after the opening quarter but Aurora used a 30-point second frame to build a 50-25 advantage at the break on its way to a 99-67 home win on Saturday afternoon.

Stephenee Huggans led the Stars attack with 27 points (9-of-21), while Hannah Currant registered 16 points and eight boards due in part to going 8-of-9 from the charity stripe.

A Currant bucket trimmed the deficit to 20-17 on the first possession of the second quarter before the Spartans broke the game open with an 18-2 run over nearly 5:00 minutes of play to open up a 38-19 cushion. Huggans halted the run with a fast-break layup but, Aurora cruised to the break up 50-25.

A pair of Currant free throws chipped the margin to 20, 63-43, with 3:02 left to go in the session but, the Spartans kept the Stars at bay, 71-47, heading to the fourth.

Huggans finished the contest strong with a 10-point quarter while Mackenzie Coleman recorded her first collegiate points. Four Stars' freshman tallied the first points of their career as Aurora handed Dominican a 99-67 road defeat.

The difference in the game was turnovers. The Spartans capitalized off the Stars' mistakes, scoring 35 points while Dominican managed just seven.

The Stars return to the Igini Sports Forum for their home opener next weekend with a pair of games against the Benedictine Eagles, beginning on Friday, February 5th at 5:00 p.m.
