RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's soccer team snapped a three-match winless streak with a 3-1 home defeat of Concordia-Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.
Both sides battled to get on the scoreboard first for much of the first half. Late in the opening 45 minutes, a hard foul from CUW was deemed a straight red card, putting the Falcons down to 10 men. Dominican wasted no time capitalizing as the resulting free kick from
Garrett Boston was headed home by
Dylan Alic to put DU up 1-0 in the 43rd minute.
Holding that 1-0 advantage at half, the Stars continued to press for more to open the second half.
John Cronnolly's brace in the 54th and 57th minutes, which featured assists from
Randall Pietrowski and
Giacomo Parrino, put Dominican firmly in the driver's seat. CUW scored with 10 minutes remaining, but DU finished off the victory, 3-1.
DU plays again on Monday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. in a rescheduled tilt with NACC-leading St. Norbert. Live coverage will be available at dustars.com.
