RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's men's soccer team defeated St. Norbert College on the road on Saturday afternoon, winning 4-2 in penalty kicks, to secure the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament Championship.
Dominican earns the NACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, of which the selection show will take place at 12:30 p.m. CT on Monday, Nov. 8.
Top-seeded SNC got on the board early with a goal to take the lead in the 17th minute. Both teams battled for the duration of the first half, creating opportunities, but the Green Knights held the 1-0 advantage at the break.
DU broke through in the second half with a goal from a
Garrett Boston free kick that was chested in by
John Cronnolly. Tied at 1-all, neither team could break through for the rest of regular time and two extra time periods.
Daniel Dominguez made two key saves in the shootout while DU converted its first four opportunities to seal the win.
