RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's women's basketball team was defeated in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) opener on Tuesday evening, falling to Benedictine 65-49 on the road.
DU hung tough throughout the contest, keeping BenU within single digits for a good majority of the first three quarters. Benedictine outscored Dominican by nine points in the first quarter and 10 in the third, which ultimately proved to be the difference. The Stars did mount a fourth quarter comeback, posting 14 points in the final frame to the Eagles' 11.
Alisha Markley knocked down two triples and scored a team-high 16 points, adding seven rebound and five steals.
Stephenee Huggans and
Kamryn Woods joined Markley in double-figures with 13 points each. Woods also racked up 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Dominican forced 24 turnovers and scored 17 points off Benedictine miscues. BenU won the rebounding battle, however, with 64 rebounds compared to the Stars' 45.
