Dominican Tops Concordia Chicago

River Forest, IL – The Dominican University men's soccer team scored twice in the first half before adding three more tallies in the second on their way to a 5-0 victory over Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday afternoon.

Giacomo Parrino opened the scoring for the Stars in the 15th minute off of a feed from Zachary Gamster to make it 1-0. Less than three minutes later, Dominican showed off its passing prowess as Adrian Pituch and Vicente Castro teamed up to find Jonathan Hernandez who put it past the Cougars goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.

Dominican controlled play for the rest of the half as it held a 10-5 advantage in shots while taking nine corner kicks in the first 45 to Concordia Chicago's zero.

Hernandez added his second goal of the match in the opening minutes of the second half before recording the hat trick in the 66th minute with the assists going to Castro and Jesus LopezA little more than a minute later, Castro was rewarded for his generosity as he netted an unassisted marker to put a stamp on a 5-0 win for the Stars.

Hernandez led the way with three goals for Dominican while Castro recorded a goal and two assists on the day. Pituch also registered two assists with Ethan Grosam, Devin Sanchez, and Gamster picking up one apiece.


Daniel Dominguez made four saves in net for the Stars to earn the shutout.

"We, unfortunately, we're not very good today, especially in the first half," said Head Coach Erick Baumann. "Our game picked up in the second half but we sure didn't make the most of our 90 minutes to compete and get better today."

Dominican picked up its play in the second 45 as it outshot Concordia Chicago 15-2.

The Stars remain home as they welcome Rockford to West Campus Field next Wednesday, March 17th for a 4:00 p.m. match.
