Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Stars Sweep Sabres 3-0

River Forest, IL – The Dominican University men's volleyball team hosted Marian University and took the match in three sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-23) on Tuesday evening inside the Igini Sports Forum. 

The Stars jumped to an early lead when Mat Molloy and George Kougan recorded two consecutive block assists to put Dominican up 10-6, before a Marian timeout. After the timeout, the Stars came out with three consecutive kills from Trey Cowan, Adrian Cebula, and Molloy to make it 13-6. The Stars would continue putting the pressure on the Sabres as Bregin DeMarco found Kougan for a kill to end the set 25-12.

A Cowan service ace gave the Stars an 8-5 lead to start the set before a Kougan kill would double it to give Dominican a 14-9 advantage. Marian cut the deficit to within four before a Dominican kill from Troy Kates made it 19-13. The set ended with a Marian service error to give the Stars a 25-16 win in the second set. 

The Stars fell behind 8-4 early in the third set before two consecutive attacking errors from the Sabres would bring Dominican within one at 9-8 The set would go back and forth before the Sabres went on a run recording five services aces to put them up 23-20. The Stars responded with four service aces of their own to close out the set 25-23, and win the match for three sets to none. 
 
"That was a really big win for our guys tonight. To be able to sweep a team that is ahead of you in conference play is always awesome," said Head Coach Cameron Andrew. "We had a great night at the service line. We love to have that positive ace to error ratio."

Offensively, the Stars had it going on the night as they recorded 12 services aces. The Stars recorded 37 kills with only seven attacking errors, hitting .390 in the match. Cebula lead the Stars with10 kills in the match. Jack McGuire got it done on both sides of the net as he had 24 assists and 11 digs on the night. Defensively, Bregin Demarco had eight digs while Kates had three blocks. 

"Quick shout out to Jack McGuire who finished with a double-double tonight. We've been harping on his defense recently and he flipped that switch tonight," continued Coach Andrew. 

#7 Dominican hits the road on Friday, March 19th when it head to Wisconsin Lutheran for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
