Stars Take Down Eagles

Lisle, IL – The Dominican University women's soccer team traveled to Benedictine University Sunday afternoon coming away with a 3-1 win over the Eagles to extend their win streak to three.

Dominican opened the scoring in the first half with an unassisted goal by Hannah DiSilverio in the ninth minute to give the Stars an early 1-0 lead. The remainder of the half stayed even as Dominican had two shots while Benedictine had four shots. The Stars and the Eagles each had a corner kick opportunity in the half.

Heading into the second half the Stars put the pressure on the Eagles allowing Sophia Bartridge to find the back of the net in the 50th minute to extend the Stars lead 2-0. The Stars would continue the attack late in the second half when Sammy Hatfield was able to connect with Bartridge for her second goal in the 83rd minute to put Dominican up 3-0.

Benedictine outshot the Stars eight to six, but the Stars had three shots on goal compared to the Eagles none while each team had three corner kick opportunities on the game.

"Nice start to conference play with a win. We battled windy conditions but came out strong and scored quickly. We had great contributions from a lot of different players, which lead to our success today. It was nice to see our team earn the shutout," said Head Coach Carlos Carrillo. "I was proud of the team in their efforts and the way they managed themselves throughout the 90 minutes. Another great team win for this group."

The Stars will return to action when they host Aurora University on Wednesday, March 24th for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff on the West Campus Field.
