Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

#10 Stars Blank #15 Raiders

Milwaukee, WI – The #10 Dominican University men's volleyball team went into the Kern Center and ran through the #15 MSOE Raiders in straight sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-20) in a marquee matchup of two nationally-ranked squads on Saturday afternoon.

A Mat Molloy kill gave the Stars a 9-6 lead in the opening set which grew to 14-7 after Jack McGuire set up George Kougan for the finish. The Raiders battled back to cut the deficit to four, 18-14, but Dominican responded with kills from McGuire and Kougan to take a commanding 23-18 advantage. The set ended with an MSOE attack error to give Dominican a 25-19 first set win.

This time it was the Stars that trailed 9-6 in the early stages of the second set before back-to-back kills from Adrian Cebula and Molloy trimmed the margin to one at 9-8. Three consecutive attack errors from the Raiders pushed the Stars back ahead, 13-11, as they would never relinquish the lead on their way to a 25-21 second set win.

A Kougan service ace helped Dominican jump out to an early 5-1 lead in the third set but MSOE responded with a 10-6 spurt to pull within two at 11-9. Another service ace, this time from Trey Cowan, made it a 14-11 Stars advantage but again the Raiders would trim the margin to one at 15-14. A Kougan kill gave his team a two-point lead which was soon followed by a Cowan kill to open up some breathing room at 20-15. MSOE would get as close as four, 22-18, but points from Kougan and Cowan closed out the set, 25-20, and the match for Dominican three sets to none.

"I'm really pleased with how we took care of business today against a really solid MSOE team," said Head Coach Cameron Andrew. "We far and away played some of our best defensive volleyball of the season. Adrian and George were really solid for us on that side of the ball today."

Cowan was the lone Star with double-digit kills, 10, as he swung it at a .421 hitting percentage. Cebula got it done on both sides of the net as he registered nine kills while notching 13 digs. Kougan was one behind with 12 digs while Troy Kates racked up five total blocks.

"It was a great week for our guys going 3-0," continued Coach Andrew. "I'm really proud of them especially after coming off a loss last week. We had some great contributions from Jacob Bush against CUC and Daniel Sharrah was fantastic as a serving specialist all week long.  All 17 of our guys have bought into where we want to go and are pushing and supporting each other to get there."

#10 Dominican returns home to the Igini Sports Forum on Tuesday, March 9th for a spring break week morning match against Concordia Chicago at 11 a.m.
