Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

#10 Dominican Cruises Past Concordia Chicago

River Forest, IL – The #10 Dominican University men's volleyball team made quick work of the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, cruising to a straight-sets win (25-11, 25-16, 25-13) on Tuesday afternoon inside the Igini Sports Forum.

A Troy Kates kill gave the Stars an early 9-3 advantage in the opening set which grew to double-digits at 15-5 after a George Kougan kill. Jack McGuire set up Trey Cowan to extend the lead to 12 at 20-8 before Adrian Cebula closed out the set with a kill of his own as Dominican took the first set 25-11.

A service ace from Kougan helped the Stars jump out to a 6-1 lead in the second that quickly grew to 12-3 after a Cebula finish. Kates recorded another kill to stretch the margin to double figures, 17-7, before Cebula put the set out of reach at 22-14. The Cougars would commit three errors to end the set 25-16 in the Stars favor.

Back-to-back kills by Kougan capped off a 12-5 run to begin the third set which was all Dominican as Kyle Eggers ballooned the differential to 22-9 on an assist from Daniel Sharrah. Cal Iwinski closed out the set and the match will a kill of his own as the Stars won the third set 25-13 to complete the sweep.

Kougan (10 kills) paced a diverse offensive attack that saw eight different players register a kill. On the defensive end, Cowan led the way with six digs while Kates racked up three blocks.

"It was another great team win today as we got several contributions from guys off of our bench," said Head Coach Cameron Andrew. "We talked about how we needed to control the serve and pass game better than we did against CUC on Friday night and we did a much better job of that today."

Dominican recorded a .863 serving percentage for the match to Concordia Chicago's .833 while also notching four more service aces than the Cougars. Controlling the service line allowed the Stars' offense to run smoothly and keep the pressure on the Cougars who committed 15 more errors than Dominican in the match.

"I'm proud of the way our guys approached the match today," continued Coach Andrew. "Their dedication to the details showed and I think that's what put us over the top today."

#10 Dominican hits the road on Friday, March 12th when it heads to Concordia University Wisconsin for a 7:00 p.m. match.
