Dominican Drops First Match of Season 3-2

Lisle, IL – The Dominican University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday evening, falling to Benedictine University 3-2.

The Eagles started the scoring early as a shot toward the lower-left corner of the net, beat the Stars goalkeeper in the third minute for a 1-0 Benedictine lead.

Dominican found the equalizer right before halftime as Randall Pietrowski found Juan Guzman for his first goal of the season to knot the match at 1-1 in the 42nd minute.

The Eagles held a 7-4 advantage in shots at the break while the Stars had two more corner kick opportunities (4-2) than Benedictine.

Dominican took the lead in the 59th minute as Zachary Gamster set up Garrett Boston for his second goal in as many games but the advantage was short-lived as Benedictine markers in the 60th and 62nd minute put the Eagles back on top 3-2.

The Stars had corner kick opportunities in the 79th, 80th, and 83rd minutes but were unable to connect for a third marker of the match.

"We were not good tonight," said Head Coach Erick Baumann. "We were very poor defensively and made the game too easy for them."

Dominican ended up outshooting Benedictine 13-11 but the Eagles had three more (6-3) shots on frame than the Stars.

"I'm looking forward to regrouping and preparing for our last regular season game on Sunday," continued Coach Baumann.

The Stars return home on Sunday, April 18th for a 1:00 p.m. match versus the Spartans.
