Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Clinch South Division Title

River Forest, IL – The Dominican University women's soccer team took on Benedictine University for the third time this season, securing the 1-0 victory.

With the victory, the Stars clinched the South Division Regular-Season Championship.

In the 31st minute of play, Regan Coxon dribbled down the left side of the field before beating two defenders and the goalkeeper to find the back of the net to notch her sixth goal of the year and give Dominican the 1-0 win.

In the second half, the Stars kept the pressure on the Eagles as they had seven shots and three corner kicks but weren't able to add an insurance goal.

"We didn't have the start to the game we were hoping for and credit to Benedictine University who came out organized and ready to compete. Thankfully we took advantage of an opportunity in the 31st minute and got on the board," said Head Coach Carlos Carrillo. "We challenged our team at the half to play a much better second 45. I was proud of how we were able to make the adjustments and play better soccer."

Dominican finished with 15 shots in the match with seven being on frame. Abbey Brown recorded a shutout for the 28th time of her career in addition to picking up her 31st win.

"We accomplished one of our goals in winning the regular-season division title. I am very proud of the seniors and this team," continued Coach Carrillo. "We look forward to getting back to work and preparing for our last regular season match on Sunday."

The Stars return to action Sunday, April 18th as they travel to Aurora University to take on the Spartans with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m.
