Aurora, IL – The Dominican University women's soccer team went on the road to take on the Spartans in their final regular-season game securing the 5-0 victory.
Maggie McClure got things going early for the Stars off of a corner kick, finding
Hannah Anderson for her third goal of the year to give the Stars a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. Dominican got another corner kick opportunity in the 16th minute of play, with McClure this time finding
Regan Coxon to extend the lead to 2-0.
Heading into the second half the Stars kept their momentum going as Coxon and
Ashleigh Huerta were able to connect to find an open Anderson to notch her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute, extending the lead to 3-0. In the 65th minute of play, an open Sophie Bartridge found the lower right corner of the goal off of an assist by
Sammy Hatfield to stretch the advantage to 4-0. Less than three minutes later
Leah Kostos found
Gabby Green to notch the fifth goal for the Stars to seal the 5-0 victory.
Offensively, the Stars had things going as they recorded 18 shots in the match with 12 of them being on frame. The Stars also had six corner kick opportunities while being able to capitalize off of two of them. Defensively, Dominican only allowed two shots on the day with just one being on frame..
"It was a great team win! We played a good complete game today," said Head Coach
Carlos Carrillo. "Great way to finish the regular season for us. In every aspect of the game, we were really good."
The Stars will return to action Wednesday, April 21st when they host a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference South Division semifinal match at West Campus Field.
